What is Delta-T?
Developed by SafeSol in partnership with the University of the West of Scotland, Delta-T is a chemical additive that improves the efficiency of heat transfer to wet heating systems by altering the properties of the water within.
In simple terms, Delta-T helps turn water into a 'superspreader', helping it to make better contact with metal surfaces, such as radiators and pipework, allowing heat to move faster and more evenly.
The Result?
Less gas used, less carbon emitted, and warmer, more consistent heat across the system.
The Tameside Depot Trial
The Tameside Depot is a large facility that includes vehicle maintenance bays, offices, and a driving test centre.
The heating system consists of four 100 kW combi boilers, old and new radiators, and extensive pipework - a realistic challenge for any energy-saving technology.
In February 2025, 30 litres of Delta-T were introduced into the depot’s 3,000-litre heating circuit.
To understand the impact of adding Delta-T to the system, SafeSol compared gas consumption performance against the same February–June periods in 2023 and 2024.
All figures were adjusted for seasonal variation using Heating Degree Days, allowing for a like-for-like assessment of energy and carbon savings.
The Results
The outcome was impressive, as indicated (left)
When adjusted for weather variation, the introduction of Delta-T delivered staggering energy savings of 54% when compared with previous years.
There was also a reduction in carbon emissions of 54 tonnes - the equivalent of planting around 2,500 trees in a single year.
Delta-T is Independently Tested and Safe for Systems
Delta-T has undergone independent testing by Cheshire Scientific and Midland Corrosion, confirming that it:
• Does not alter water chemistry or microbiology
• Does not increase corrosion, scaling, or damage to seals
• Works safely alongside existing inhibitors and biocides
And, it’s manufactured right here in Britain to ISO 9001 standards.

The findings show that Delta-T not only reduces gas use but also:

• Reduces pump energy and electricity costs
