A good central heating corrosion inhibitor should do the following:
SafeSol, central heating corrosion inhibitor, is an excellent product for use in domestic systems. It has BuildCert approval. This molybdate inhibitor, dosed at the correct concentration protects against corrosion and scale. It also prevents the formation of magnetite (iron oxide compound) sludge. This inhibitor will also protect a variety of metals including steel, cast iron, brass and aluminium. It is a single chemical inhibitor which makes it easy to monitor and control.
Corrosion inhibitors at the correct concentration optimise the energy efficiency and increase the life span of a heating system.
Corrosion inhibitor should always be dosed to a clean system. The dose rate for this product is 1 litres for every 100 litres of system water which will give 100ppm molybdate. The system pH should remain below 8.4
It is important that new systems are flushed with a suitable cleaner such as Rad-X and old systems are flushed with a suitable rust remover prior to dosing with corrosion inhibitor.
Systems that operate below 60C such as underfloor heating or chilled systems should be dosed with a biocide to ensure microbiological control.
The concentration of the molybdate product must be monitored after commissioning and then annually during the life of the system. This is in line with British Standard BS7593:2019.
Molybdate concentration can be measured easily using a simple test kit.
